i think that 'cyberspace' is a place that exist....although its not on a map its a place for ppl to get away..most people i feel are moving towards 'living through the internet'..like the internet gives people a freedom they never had once before, for instance many guys now try and build realtionships with females over the computer (and vice versa) bc they get a confidence of being unseen when speaking to the person and you cant hear their voice...mostly for guys. they dont like being shot down becasue of their egos...so they rather approach a girl on the computer where their comfortable to say things they wouldnt other wise in reality. ive had this happen to me many times. its just like guys wanting to get to know you over the phone...instead of taking you out or meeting eahother for dates to talk. many people are comfortable on the computer and bc they can create their own screen naames, and what have you, their then able to create a persona of their own choice....mainly one thats different from who they are in reality...
i think cyberspace is a place now for ppl, things that we used to do in our own 'real' lives we now do on the computer..like, build and harvest our own farms, create our own communities, shop online, pay bills, build virtual dream houses, and now even make 'phone calls' over the internet using skype...with all of these factors included, why wouldnt it be a place?

You make some really interesting points here, Bree, and you really engage with the notion of the internet as "space." In a virtual world, people can create a "self" that they never could in the physical one.
ReplyDeleteThe gender-based observations interest me: do you think the anonymity of the internet favors guys? Can't girls also use it to their advantage?
