Animal by Mike Snow
In this case i feel tht the "hw" as well as the "what" play very big roles in the way the song is precieved and also what the song is about. The slow pace at the begining of the song helps to create pictures in ur mind of the things talked about. The while the chorus picks up the beat gets intense and somewhat serious as though as it were a cry for help. This lets yu kno tht something needs to be done and we need to gt ur attention as quickly as possible. Th words in the song, as I stated before seem to provide a message within the message of the actual song. This is why I feel tht "Love Bomb" by NERD is a great example of a message through song, as far as the "hw" vs. the "wht" in a song

A Song That Matters
Pink Floyd's 'Goodbye Blue Sky' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0v07InoFiU - Music Video)
(
Haha... well, I wasn't expecting to do this, especially that I already talked about two of my more favored songs in terms of my connection to them in the last blog xD
Took a while, but I found one. This one doesn't have a personal connection to me. So... it’s a different approach to what I'm going along with this time.
Pink Floyd: a memorable band; in my opinion, probably one of the greatest bands of all time. They experiment and create the most chill-relaxing works out there.
With this song, the mood at the beginning of the piece begins like this: … There is the air, the birds, the rumbles of something up in the sky, and a child talking to his mother about seeing, "... an aero plane up in the sky."
It has this warm feeling about it, with the sounds of an acoustic to accompany it.
… Then of a sudden, it’s shadowed; the mood of the piece has soured. The mood of the piece shifted; it's got a chilled feeling about it… but as well breath-taking, based on how the song progresses.
The lyrics talk about how the depressions of war take over everything that's been treasured as joyful and wonderful… and destroying it all in this clouded world. No longer is the sunny, blue sky up above, but instead, it's cold, isolated... filled with the dull, gray planes of war, the dogs of war. It takes you into consideration about how war corrupts the security of our safety, the happiness you’ve cherished every day. There are people who are out there, fighting a war… civilians who have no part of it, trying to live their lives; all within the blanket of guns, planes, and death.
Watching the music video, it gets into your head to take notice of what war is. But then again, unless you’ve BEEN to war, or been behind the lines in your homeland in those terrible times, you’ll never understand. I never experienced it, but it doesn’t mean I would want to anytime soon.
Even if you don't watch the video... just listen to the song at least. As you listen to it, there something in there that plays within your head, about the feel of darkness. It showed us, the listeners, how the world we once lived in, was in shackles… in fear, of a danger that placed their lives in jeopardy. It weakens them, fragiles them… both mentally and physically.
… All in all, it's a wonderful song. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a happy, jolly song… but the beauty behind how this band delivers their message of what it's all about... is eye-opening, based on the meaning, the mood, and the message behind it. I highly recommend you stop what you’re doing, and listen to it right now.

A song that matters
My major enjoyment for this music is the empowering feeling is gives me while I listen to it. It is the music I will turn to when I am having a bad day for whatever reason. It has the kind of melody to it that just sends shivers down my spine and I love it.
With this specific song I love the imagery I think of for it and often times make the imagery a reality. in the beginning of the song its starts of tranquil, when you listen to it you can just imagine driving down a back road; no street lights and its a beautiful star lit night. up until the chorus that is. Once you get there it sounds like the intro for the bad guy in a movie.

Banned Music
In the wake of 911, Clear Channel (media conglomerate; largest owner of radio stations in the U.S.), did not ban any songs...but they did provide radio programmers with a lengthy (150+) list of songs that might be unfit for radio after such a tragedy:

Some interesting and amusing choices in that list. Worth checking out.

Hearing is Believing
M.O.M.M.
Hearing Is Believing.
I listened to “hearing is believing” one time and went to write my blog. I tried to begin to write and could barely think of where to start. I knew what I had just listened to but it seemed like none of it really sunk in. I had to go back and listen to it a second time in order to figure out what I would write. I think it was difficult to begin writing because I didn’t actually see somebody talking our view the examples they had. Which goes back to the point made that we hear with our eyes and also see with our ears. I found that to be so completely true. You see it so much today with music and movies. It doesn’t matter how awful a song is as long as the person who is singing it looks good most people are happy. Sorry to the 85% percent of people this applies to, but you are shallow. The other point of the audio essay I wanted to address was the example of TV and radio. It’s something I’ve never really thought of before but after I did I realized how differently each medium sends their message. Radio leaves so much to the imagination it is unbelievable. Although we can create pretty much close to anything on TV today, it will never be the same as radio. Even listening to talk shows you begin to create and image in your mind of what the host looks like based on their voice. This essay pointed out so much of what is true around us today.
Hearing Is Believing and Hornby
I think hearing something rather than reading it makes a difference. If you are reading something you cant determine what context the writer is writing in. For example, you can't tell if the writer is stressing a certain word or being sarcastic. Many of my own text messages are misunderstood because of this. I disagree with a song being a good song just because it sounds well. In order for me to like a song, I have to like what the artist is saying or his message that he or she is trying to get across. Everything that glitters isnt gold. Lyrics are very important to me. If a song has a nice beat but is saying non-sense, it has no purpose to me.

your love is the place where i come from
another strong point the author touches on is the fact that most people who write, write to reach a deadline, or lenth that is required, instead of writing what they feel. this was something that took me by suprise, just to hear another author speak it. i was aught by my highschool writing teacher that you should never write to 'reach'. i guess that part wasnt so important but it stood out to me becasue i had never heard that before, most people especially English teachers stress the fact of writing to a minimum or maximum amount of pages but there were two people actually disagreed and thought that you should write only to explain or complete a thought
Response To Williamson piece
i also like how williamson bought up the examples about the things that are "standard" and "nonstandard", when it comes to proper 'grammatics'. for example "I see where the President has said that, irregardless of what happens with the gasoline shortage, he'll still be against rationing, just like he has been in the past." In this example you have a person who speaks and seems as if they are educated and proper, where as in this next example, one may think that the person is of a low class and poorly educated, " I aint sure that he seen the polls before he said that. he dont seem to know that the people are fed up." Really what I think it comes down to is the fact of whats 'effective' and whats not.

I appreciate that some of you are really starting to engage with the readings. Such efforts will not go unnoticed when it comes time to assign grades : )

The game is the fact that he deliberately made errors in his writing to see if we noticed them. He made about 100 of them.
Everybody has their own variation of defining an error. Some errors stand out to some people while others don't even notice them. Errors exist in so many places, that it is impossible for every person to identify the same ones and respond to them the same way.
He located errors in the reader locating errors.
He wanted to make the point that nobody seemed to notice that E.B. White made an error. He is amazed by the fact that the guy that notices errors in others writing didn't notice it in his own.

- You dnt really notice what is wrng unless u "dig" and "nit pick" at the piece at hand. Most of the time we pay more attention to the context of what is being read rather than the content, so simple grammatical errors are often missed.
- The reader: because they want you gt something out of what your reading, nt critique the paper
'Errors' In-Class Assignment - Joe
2) That everyone's interpretation of an 'error' is different from one another, based on one's writing style and approach.
3) He looks at errors through the writer's perspective, but then thinks about the readers themselves who look at the paper, and what they think is correct, and what isn't
4) Because he's trying to prove a point through the writers who developed those rules, and counteracting of what they suggest, by looking at an example of them breaking their own guidelines.

Hearing Is Believing/"Your Love"
Well, this morning, I decided on getting down with finishing this reading assignment for homework.
...I gotta say, quite different with how this assignment went, comparing it to the past few reading assignments. As far as the interest went with this, I was more into this than the past few assignments (not to saying that the others were bad!). How I'm going to respond to these two works (the short reading, and the audio recording) will be mixed up, so the focus on this will not be jumping from one to another, but meshed up, because I saw connections between both assignments.
Reading, "Your Love Is The Place Where I Come From", it's ironic, from hearing the author's perspective, that I actually do relate songs to things about my life, connected by the lyrics, the time I've listened to it, or what it reminds me of. I've heard other people making this similar connection before, but this finally hit into my head about how I look at music at times.
Two examples of this - "How To Disappear Completely" by Radiohead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAF8D0ugyVk) is a song that's perhaps my favorite (if not, one of the handful I love), because of how it relates to me, how I feel isolated with life's problems I deal with, and how I want to run away from life... like the song understands me. ...But not only that, but the feel of the music attracts me to it: the cold, but yet warm feeling of being wrapped within the guitar's chords, the piano's cries, the drums, all of the instruments that creates this atmosphere I could look at the world around me... and be wrapped within. So it's not only the lyrics, but the singing behind it, and the instruments that create it.
Metallica's 'One' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXPkmIwwobA) I can relate through when my grandfather passed away. I've listened to it over and over again, following a phone call from my parents early one winter's morning years ago, listening to it after noticing what happened, and throughout most of the days afterwards. The lyrics connect with the event that occurred, but also the mood of the music, the guitars; all creates this world around me, envelopes me within a different mood of how to look at things around me, a different painting.
So, your ears can help in painting a picture in your head. It isn't only the lyrics that can create a message, but the music behind it. As Mr. Sloan mentioned, lyrics are a minor thing to worry about; it's the music that matters. The music itself is the core message to how it creates such a feel to the listener, different in each one's perspective of it.
About half a year ago, my look upon instrumental bands has got more of my respect to just listening to the mood of a piece more; by this, it also connected me better to classical music. I've been inspired to writing creative pieces and mini-compositions on my guitar, by just listening to the instruments alone. A good example of this is 'Explosions in the Sky'; if you have time, this is a song that can help you understand the importance of the instruments themselves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeaXvVLuSJw). The message within the music is there, to create something in your head, let it be inspiration to writing some lyrics, a painted world in your head to draw, whatever.
Moving on, in the 'Hearing Is Believing' audio, this is connected along with what I've said. Lyrics are not always the important part of a song, but what's behind them, supporting them. The lyrics are just the same as any other piece of the song: a part of an ice cream sundae.
Ironically, it reminds me of the part in the audio that used audio and sound effects to convey a picture... of when
I agree that the ears within music, can reach to one's creativity, in a way that television, art work, whatever, can't provide.
The beauty about each of these forms of expressions is awing. Music can creates a picture, television can help motivate ideas, art work can help one be inspired... so much that each of these forms can provide. There are numerous possibilities about where they can all take you, and each way provides it differently in how you look at it, how you feel, how you create. It's like comparing the first 'Harry Potter' to the movie; sure, the movie's great, but the book's got it all (only because of the limitation); when I read the first book LONG ago, the interpretation of how I looked at it in my head, was WAY different than the movie.
... And that's pretty much it. I might have gone off-topic with the discussion, and WAY overboard with it! I guess it's just myself in a 'writing phase' perhaps : )
I hope I flew with this for the most part xD
Oh, and by the way, the audio assignment sounded pretty good! ... Unless it's because I'm in the Dom right now, I thought the audio was pretty clean in terms of the recording! I might wanna copy of this, because it was a very good job!! : )
