My Hero
In my culture and in our history I think a person that would be considered a hero would be Mohandas Gandhi. He preached peace and practiced non violent disobedience. Many of my favorite quotes are from Gandhi. "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." That's really one of the quotes that has inspired me to do something good in my life. To actually get a chance to help people! I want to become a physician and hopefully travel to third world countries and give aid and medical assistance to the people that really need it. Another one of my favorite quotes from Gandhi is "be the change you want to see in the world". That's also very inspiring. You can't just wait around for people to make a difference or make changes, if you want something done do it yourself! "God has no religion" is another one of my favorite quotes. Gandhi is pretty much saying God doesn't favor one religion over another. We are all God's children. This quote has shaped my mindset as well. When talking about religion I am very open to everyone's values. I don't like talking about specifics. I like finding common values between religions, and if you sit down and take the time to talk about different religions it's not that hard to find similarities. There are more similarities than differences. Gandhi was an inspirational figure. He inspired people like Martin Luther King Jr. That in itself is amazing. Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero himself, and his inspiration came from Gandhi.
