Hearing Is Believing.
This audio clip was actually really enjoyable to listen to. I don't recall many classes that have used this method of learning, and it is most certainly a breath of fresh air. What intrigued me the most was the point made about "its not what you say sometimes, its how you say it." How many times have you sung along to your favorite song and fudged the words because you had no idea what they were actually saying? Its the feel, the rhythm of how the singer is putting tonality on the words. I also found it interesting that songs were banned in the 1950's just based on how they "sounded." The example used didn't even have lyrics- just the sound alone was too hardcore for the generation (My, how far we've come with censorship :/) . This is a classic example of how powerful audible sound can be. The radio does possess special qualities that allow us to use are imagination. You listen in, picture in your mind what they are talking about, and your creative senses are slightly tickled. Pretty cool. The power of sound is highly underrated, and greatly under appreciated. I'll hear a song that I listened to a long time ago, and it will take me directly back to that moment in time and paint the picture so vividly. Thats power. Nice dumb and dumber clip- that one actually got me to laugh out loud.

ReplyDeleteYes...very good example. We get some truly insipid melodies stuck in our heads sometimes.
