Response To Williamson piece

although in reading the williamson piece i didnt understand quiet what he meant, i understood after doing so again. at first i felt that he was speaking to me when he was making the point that some people go through articles or works of writing and strictly critique the work for its mechanics and errors or mistakes that were made instead of reading the actual article for its substance. i would have to say i do that quite often. most of the times when someone asks me to look over their work I dont go into the task simply looking for errors only, I like to read them for what their worth. i think the errors just pop ot at me.
i also like how williamson bought up the examples about the things that are "standard" and "nonstandard", when it comes to proper 'grammatics'. for example "I see where the President has said that, irregardless of what happens with the gasoline shortage, he'll still be against rationing, just like he has been in the past." In this example you have a person who speaks and seems as if they are educated and proper, where as in this next example, one may think that the person is of a low class and poorly educated, " I aint sure that he seen the polls before he said that. he dont seem to know that the people are fed up." Really what I think it comes down to is the fact of whats 'effective' and whats not.
