Iris by Goo Goo Dolls

My favorite song is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. This is also my mom's favorite song also. This song means a lot to me because my family has had its ups and downs, and my mom has always stuck by my side. She taught me a lot of things in life. This song to me symbolizes the struggles we have gone through and how we have also had a very close bond. My dad was absent for the majority of my childhood, which has definitely made who I am today. My mom is a very strong woman and she has taught me to be strong as well. It also symbolizes how hard it was for her to slowly let me go as I got older. She is very protective over me and no matter how bad I mess up, she doesn't get mad at me, we just find a solution together. The lyrics to this song talk about being by someone's side and how people don't understand situations unless they are in our shoes. At the end of the song the lyrics are "I just want you to know who I am". My mom is the only person in world to know everything little thing about me. She is the one I go to for everything, no matter how hard it may be to do so. She is the only person who really knows who I am, which ties in with the lyrics of the song. She knows me like the back of her hand.
