If you are cool you could do something that isn't uncool and it would make you not cool anymore. Like when homer backed away from the cannon he was no longer cool because what he was doing was cool and he wasn't the cool one. His son thought he was so cool and then when he watched his dad back out he no longer thought he was cool. Something could make you cool or it could make you uncool. If a good singer really wasn't good in person that could make him not cool because you thought he was a really good singer. That goes with that gladwell is trying to say. Homer was no longer cool to his kids after what he did.
