Cool?

I think the connection between what Gladwell said and the Simpsons episode is that they both declare that cool is something in the person not something that you wear or something that you say. It was sort of funny because no matter what Homer did he was never really cool because cool is just something that you are. I think that the episode really showed that cool is something that is relative. It showed bands that used to be cool in the 70's and bands that were cool in the 90's and how perspectives can really change over the years. The grand funk railroad references were probably the funniest thing about the entire episode. I can not think of a more terrible band than grand funk railroad. I also thought that the Peter Frampton jokes were rather funny.

    The cultural setting for this episode (90s) is really striking to watch now - like you say, the perspectives can really change.
