I think there are two main definition's of cool that we throw around. Some people call something cool because a lot of people like it, and it's popular. It's like back in middle school, we would call the popular kids the cool kids sometimes even though we may not have liked them. I tend to favor calling something "cool" because of the simple fact that I like it and think it's awesome.
Sometimes, different trends start because just one person thought something was cool. Like when do we decide when a style of clothes is cool again? Someone thinks a certain trend from the past is cool, and then they advertise it, and other people like it too. So I do like when they use the term "coolhunters".
