So how do you know your cool?

This simpons episode draws almost directly from Mr. Gladwell's quote. Homer finds himself at a crossroads with his coolness. If he was cool back in his time, how did he become uncool with this generation? Does coolness just fade with age, or does what you listen to and wear define your level of hipness? Homer keeps asking his kids if he is cool and they emphatically respond "No!" But to their standards, not conforming is cool, so wouldn't that make homer cool as well? The true definition of coolness can't be defined by anyone but themselves, because they in fact are making up the definition of what it is to be cool. So in a broader sense, everyone is cool, and everyone isn't cool all at the same time. Ah, what a glorious thing it is to be cool!

As paradoxical as this sounds, it really does make sense. Good post.
