Cyberspace as a Place

No. I don't think that the internet would be a nice place to stay. We as a people have lost emotion and we lack communication. The internet is a nice way to communicate but it shouldn't be the only way to communicate. But many of us are guilty of using it to frequently. I would not want to live in communities like facebook, twitter, and chat rooms! These people are connected by status updates and random bits of information that people share. The chances of miscommunication are extremely high on the internet. The best way to communicate is face to face. The best way to live is with other people! Human interaction is very important. You don't have that in the virtual world. Websites such as facebook and twitter do encourage a sense of place and connection. But it is limited. You can talk to people but it's not that personal. Having a phone conversation with a person is better than just tweeting with someone. Having a conversation face to face is the best way to communicate in my opinion. Then there is a flip side. These websites also encourage isolation because you are sitting in an area on the computer away from human interaction. You do take part in virtual interaction but like I've said, it's not the same! These websites encourage isolation because it's just you and your computer. The internet also has a negative aspects. There is a lot of spam and nonsense information on facebook and twitter. Your accounts can get hacked and your name can be misrepresented. The virtual world is just as cruel as the real world! So I would much rather stay in the real world. It's funny that I say this, because I'm constantly on facebook. I always have a facebook tab open when I am on my computer. If I'm not on my computer I have my phone connected to facebook. I text people more than I call them. I facebook chat with a friend then talk to them on the phone! It's actually kinda sad. I think I'm gonna start calling people more often and talk to them in person more. Because the best way of communication is face to face! Human interaction...not virtual.
